Description

A row of four cottages located at 8-14 Vicarage Lane, dating from the early 19th century. Number 10 appears to be specifically dated 1802. The cottages have gable ends facing the street. Constructed of brick, they are topped with Swithland slate roofs. Numbers 8-12 are three storeys high, each a single unit with a doorway and two or three-light, horizontally sliding sash windows on each floor, all featuring cambered heads. Number 10 has a longer window on the top floor, suggesting a workshop was once present. The cottages are punctuated by large brick stacks. Number 14 is a two-storey cottage, likely built somewhat later, with a single-unit plan, a doorway framed by a wooden architrave, and a single three-light, horizontally sliding sash window with a cambered head. These cottages were likely built for framework knitters.
