Description
This property comprises two houses, 86 and 88 Main Street, Queniborough. The building dates to 1730, though it incorporates an earlier core. The construction consists of brickwork set on a cobble plinth, with a thatched roof. The main range is a low two-storey structure, though the original plan is obscured by later alterations. Four flat-arched brick heads are visible, suggesting previous window openings. Two of these are now wider than the original openings to accommodate three-light casement windows. Above, there are three windows with two and three-light horizontally sliding sashes. Two axial stacks are present, one positioned close to the left-hand gable stack. The taller coped gable to the right features a triple-light sash window on the ground floor, with a cambered head, and a two-light casement above, also with a flat-arched head. Carved into a slate above the central bay of the main range are the initials ‘TW’ and the date 1730.
At the rear, remnants of a previous timber-framed building are visible within the brickwork, including an angle post and padstone, one arch brace on a wing, and the wall-plate in the main range.
