Description
No. 84 on Main Street is a cottage dating from the early 18th century, though it may have an earlier core. The building is constructed of brick, with the upper storey featuring a planked heightening and a modern leaded roof over thatch. It is 1 and a half storeys tall and has a two-unit plan. The central doorway is situated beneath a bracketed porch. On either side of the doorway, there are three-light casement windows with cambered heads. There is one blocked window on the outer left and possibly another on the outer right. The cottage also has a gabled dormer window with two lights and a small two-light casement window below the eaves. The base features a cobble and moulded brick plinth, along with a moulded brick sill band. Two cross sections of timber are visible to the right of the doorway, one in the plinth and one at ceiling height. A stack is located on the right-hand gable. Although small, the cottage has some architectural pretensions and may have been refronted from an earlier building.
