Description
No. 280 on Forest Road is a cottage dating from the 15th and 16th centuries, with later wings from the 16th and 17th centuries. The building features colourwashed rendered rubble stone, brick, and timber framing, topped with a Swithland slate roof and a central brick ridge. It has a central range of one and a half storeys supported by two pairs of cruck blades, with gabled cross wings at either end that rise to two storeys. The entrance is located at the rear.
The front of the cottage has a central one-light and two-light leaded casement window, flanked by two two-light casements in the left wing. The left end includes an outshut with a door, while the right end features a two-light and a three-light casement. At the rear, there are two recessed porch features in the center, showcasing the blade ends, with a three-light casement on the left and a door on the right. A two-light dormer is positioned above. The left timber-framed gable has a one-light casement, and the right gable has a two-light casement, with a one-light and a two-light casement below. Inside, there are beams that add to the character of the cottage.
