Description

A range of eight cottages with a stable, dating from around 1800, though with possible earlier origins and at least three distinct building phases. The cottages are constructed from granite rubble stone with red brick dressings, with variations in brickwork, including red brick for number 50. Roof materials include Swithland slate, 20th-century tile, and Welsh slate, with four brick ridge stacks and a stack at the right end. The cottages have two and three storeys and originally ten windows. The majority of windows feature 2- and 3-light casements, some with top lights. Numbers 40 and 50 retain original opening sizes, but now contain 20th-century windows. A 3-light dormer window is present on number 36, and number 50 features a 2-light horizontal sliding sash window with small panes on both the first and second floors. Eight doors, including part-glazed doors at numbers 40 and 48, provide access to the cottages. Internal beams remain. Attached to the left end, across a gateway, is a stable built of similar materials and featuring corrugated hipped roofing and stable doors.
