Description

No. 12 Meeting Street is a cottage, originally a pair, dating from around 1840. It is constructed of granite rubble stone with stone dressings, topped with a Swithland slate roof featuring a brick ornamental ridge and stacks at the left end. The front elevation has a 1½-storey design with two 3-light wooden mullion windows on each floor, incorporating patterned iron lights. A door is located on the left side, and a door has been blocked in the centre to the right. Tudor style hood moulds are present above all windows. Three 2-light dormers, mirroring the window design, are situated in the roof. A likely contemporaneous 1-storey wing extends to the left, with two 3-light windows and a left-end stack. The ends of the building feature blank first-floor windows with hood moulds, where the frame and patterned lights are painted to resemble the real thing. The building holds group value with No. 14 Meeting Street, which is almost identical in appearance and situated to the right.
