Description

Ye Olde Butchers Shop is a cottage and shop that was formerly two or more cottages, dating from the late 16th century to the 17th century. It is constructed of whitewashed granite rubble stone, rendered brick, and timber framing, topped with a thatched roof featuring a brick ridge stack with four truncated circular flues. The building is 1½ storeys high, with the front facing left and a gable to the right.

On the left side, there is a three-light casement window with top lights, a blocked door, and another three-light fixed window. There is also a door and another three-light fixed window, with a dormer and an eyebrow dormer above, both featuring two-light horizontal sliding sash windows. The gable to the right contains a shop front with a wooden bracketed head and a part-glazed door and window below, along with a three-light casement window above.

On the right end, there are a three-light window, a two-light sliding sash window, and a two-light window above. The building has two wall posts, and at the rear, there are single-storey lean-to extensions. In the left gable, there is an upper cruck truss with brick herring-bone pattern nogging. Inside, there are beams. The building has significant group value with the nearby Church of St. Bartholomew.
