Description

No. 17 Church Lane is a late 16th and 17th century cottage. It is constructed of rendered and colourwashed granite rubble stone and brick, with a 20th century tile roof and a brick stack at the right end. The cottage has one-and-a-half storeys, featuring a small four-light wooden oriel bay on either side of a part-glazed door. A three-light dormer window sits above. There are 20th century single-storey extensions to the rear.

Inside, there is an inglenook fireplace with a stopped chamfer on the beam and ceiling beam, and a pointed arched niche within the inglenook, possibly originally used as a spice cupboard. The roof is supported by two pairs of cruck blades, with clasped tops and collars below; only one blade is visible below eaves level on the staircase.
