Description
No. 46 on Loughborough Road is a cottage dating from the 17th century that was reclad in the early 19th century. It is constructed of rendered brick with a plinth and features a Welsh slate roof, which has brick stacks at the right ridge and left end. The building is two storeys high and has two 2-light horizontal sliding sash windows with small panes on the upper floor. The ground floor includes, from left to right, a similar 2-light window, a door with four panels and a top glazed fanlight, a 20th-century window in its original frame with a roller blind above, and a carriage entrance with a cambered lintel beam and plank doors. At the rear, there is a 19th-century two-storey wing and a timber wall post. Inside, there are beams, evidence of an open fireplace, and indications that the eaves have been raised, suggesting that the original 17th-century timber framing is enclosed within the brick structure. This building was formerly known as Gibsons Bakery.
