Description

Hall Cottages and The Hall is a house and cottages built around 1840. The structure is made of stuccoed brick with sandstone dressings and features a deeply overhanging hipped Welsh slate roof with rendered lateral stacks. It has three storeys and a north elevation with three plus three bays. The main three-bay section has an advanced centre bay, banded rustication on the ground floor, and pilasters at the corners. A large projecting porch bay includes a Tuscan Doric porch with a balustraded parapet and panelled double doors. On each side of the porch are tripartite glazing bar sashes with moulded hoodmoulds on consoles. Above, there are three glazing bar sashes with hoodmoulds on consoles and a continuous sill band, followed by three smaller glazing bar sashes. To the left, there is a lower brick range with glazing bar sashes under segmental heads and a storeyed brick extension added in 1988, featuring a large segmental-headed opening on the ground floor and a sash window above.

Inside, there is a cantilevered open string staircase with carved tread ends and two turned balusters per tread, topped with a wreathed handrail. The entrance hall is tiled, and the staircase is illuminated by an oval domed light. The interior also boasts ornate plaster cornices and early 20th-century wooden chimneypieces.
