Description

A pair of cottages, originally one house, dating to the late 17th century with alterations in the mid-18th century, and further changes in the 19th and 20th centuries. The cottages are built of coursed squared coal measures sandstone with quoins, have coped gables with moulded kneelers, gable stacks, and a Welsh slated roof.

The south elevation has two storeys and three bays, with lower additions to the east and west; the east addition is two-storey, and the west is single-storey, both with stone slates. A central doorway has a moulded classical doorcase and a keyblock integrated with the lintel, now with a 20th-century planked and studded door. Flanking the doorway are three-light chamfer mullioned windows beneath a continuous dripmoulding, which terminates at the doorway. A higher dripmoulding is situated above the doorway, but is not connected to the lower one. The first-floor windows are lower versions of the ground-floor openings. The first floor has 19th-century glazing bar casements and fixed lights, while the ground floor has 20th-century joinery.

The north elevation has been considerably altered, but retains several 17th-century windows and a central full-height stair window.
