Description

Barlow Grange is a farmhouse dating from the early 17th century, with alterations made in the 18th century and further refurbishment in 1984. It is constructed from coursed rubble coal measures sandstone, featuring quoins, coped gables with moulded kneelers, gable and end ashlar ridge stacks, and stone slated roofs. The building consists of three linked ranges: a single-storey, single-bay range to the northwest, a two-storey central range, and a lower two-storey range at the southeast end.

The single-bay range has been almost entirely remodelled and includes a 20th-century three-light flush mullioned window. The central range features stacked three-light windows in the north bays, with the ground floor windows renewed and having narrow flush mullions in plain flush surrounds. The lower two-storey range at the southeast end has three bays, with a single-light window, a two-light window, and a three-light window on the ground floor, all having flush surrounds, and a three-light chamfer mullioned window on the first floor. There are signs of blocked openings in this range.

The southeast gable has two renewed two-light chamfer mullioned windows, and there are 20th-century leaded lights in metal casement frames. A doorway in the northeast bay of the central range, which was an inserted opening, has been blocked during refurbishment, leaving no doorway at the front of the house.
