Description
The stables, now used as a garage, date from around 1800 and are located to the east of the Wharfinger's house at Buxworth Canal Basin. The building is constructed of coursed gritstone rubble and has a slate roof. It is a rectangular, two-storey structure with additions on the east and south sides. The south elevation features double doors on the west side and a smaller door on the east side, with a centrally placed opening above for access to the loft. This building is historically significant as it was used by George Wheatcroft, the first Wharfinger, for inspecting the canal basin and its associated works. It is situated by Buxworth Canal Basin, which is a Scheduled Site.
