Description
The Canal Warehouse at the end of the Peak Forest Canal, dated 1832 and altered in 1915, is a Grade II* listed rubble warehouse that spans the canal, which concludes in a basin just beyond. It was originally constructed as a trans-shipment shed to facilitate the transfer of goods between the Peak Forest Canal and the High Peak Tramway, which was completed in 1831.
On the basin elevation, there are two segmental-headed openings with rusticated reveals and keystones that serve as tramway entrances, along with a lower similar boat entry in the center. The gable features a plaque and has stone-coped gable ends. The side elevation includes five windows with stone lintels and three smaller windows. The opposite side elevation has been altered for use as a garage. The canal elevation features one hoist door, a window above it, a central boat entry, and an additional window to the right.
