Description
Bugsworth Hall is a hall, dating to 1627, that has been converted into three separate houses. Later alterations were made, along with 20th-century additions. It is constructed of coursed gritstone rubble with quoins and has gritstone dressings. A slate roof covers the building, with stone ridge, gable end and side wall stacks. The gables have plain bargeboards with finials. The front has five gables; two wide ones on the east, each with two storeys and an attic. To the west are two narrow recessed bays flanking a wider bay. The extreme western bay is a 20th-century addition, and all three bays to the west are of two storeys only. The fenestration is irregular, with a centrally positioned, quoined, chamfered doorcase. The shallow pitched arch cut into the base of the shouldered lintel is inscribed "CIM I627." To the east is a four-light recessed and chamfered mullion window, originally five-light, with a dripmould that has returned stops. To the west is a two-light recessed and chamfered mullion window. In a recessed bay is a similar four-light window, and further west a similar five-light window with a dripmould. A 20th-century door and window are present in the new addition. Above is a similar window to those below, except that over the 1627 door is a three-light recessed and chamfered mullion window with a dripmould. In each of the two eastern gables is a two-light recessed and chamfered mullion window.
