Description
Cotebank is a building that consists of the remains of an old hall and a mid-19th century farmhouse, dating from the 17th century and mid-19th century. It is constructed from coursed gritstone rubble with large quoins and features gritstone dressings and a stone slate roof, topped with a large central stone ridge stack.
The building is two storeys high and has a single bay. The south elevation showcases a central five-light recessed and chamfered mullion window, which is adorned with a moulded dripmould that has returned stops. This window features 19th-century leaded lights. Above the gable, the area is plastered. There is a similar window below, with the easternmost light retaining its original leaded lights and glass. The rear elevation includes a four-light recessed and chamfered mullion window with a dripmould above, and a similar window is located above it. An inserted door is found to the east.
Inside, the ground floor south room contains a large arched fireplace with a seven-foot span. The beams are ovolo moulded, and the ground floor is laid with stone flags. The mid-19th century farmhouse is attached to the west side of the building.
