Description
38, The Ridings is a house dating from the early 18th century, with alterations from the 19th and 20th centuries. It is constructed of painted brick on a stone plinth and features a steeply pitched corrugated iron roof that covers the remains of thatch, which has reportedly been re-thatched. The house has brick gable stacks and brick-coped gables.
The building is two storeys high and has two bays. The street-facing elevation includes one small horizontal sliding sash window on the east side and a two-light glazing bar casement window on the west side. On the upper floor, there are two horizontal sliding sash windows; the one on the west has glazing bars, while the east window is a plain sash. The west gable wall features a segmental-headed chamfered timber doorcase with a plank door and a bracketed 20th-century roof above it. Adjacent to the south is a small single-pane fire window. Centrally located on the gable is a Guardian fire insurance plaque.
The rear elevation has similar small windows and includes one 20th-century bay window. The interior is quite simple, featuring one inglenook fireplace and chamfered central beams.
