Description

This is a terrace of five cottages located on Stanhope Street, dated 1790. The cottages are built from coursed square gritstone with gritstone dressings and quoins, topped with a plain tile roof. The central gable features a stone coped gable with plain kneelers, and there are brick ridge stacks and a lateral stack. The building is two storeys high and has a west elevation with eight bays.

The projecting gabled bay includes a doorway with a segmental arch, prominent voussoirs, and massive stone jambs, leading to a panelled door. On either side of this doorway are 2-light casement windows set beneath channelled wedge stone lintels. Above, there is a similar window flanked by the date 1790, and raised stone panels above that resemble half aprons, inscribed with 'Stanhope Street'. There is another smaller window above with a 20th-century casement.

To the right of the gabled bay, there is a doorway flanked by casement windows, all featuring channelled wedge stone lintels. Above, there are two gabled half dormers. To the left of the gabled bay, there is a doorway, two windows, two more doorways, and two additional windows, mostly with channelled wedge stone lintels, along with four gabled half dormers above.
