Description

PARISH OF STANTON BY DALE STANHOPE STREET SK 43 NE 6/97 (East Side) Nos 16-24 (even) GV II

Terrace of five cottages. Dated 1790. Coursed square gritstone with gritstone dressings and quoins. Plain tile roof, central gable has stone coped gable with plain kneelers. Brick ridge stacks and lateral stack. Two storeys. West elevation of eight bays. Projecting gabled bay has a doorway with segmental arch with prominent voussoirs and massive stone jambs. Panelled door. Flanked on each side by 2-light casements under channelled wedge stone lintels. One similar window above flanked by the date 1790. Raised stone panels above like half aprons, inscribed 'Stanhope Street'. One similar but smaller window above again with C20 casement. To the right of the gabled bay is a doorway flanked by casement windows, all with channelled wedge stone lintels. Two gabled half dormers above. To the left of the gabled bay are a doorway, two windows, two doorways and two windows, mostly with channelled wedge stone lintels. Four gabled half dormers above.
