Description
This is a house located at 29 Stanhope Street, believed to date from 1632 and altered in the early 19th century. It is constructed of coursed squared gritstone and red brick, topped with a plain tile roof featuring a central brick ridge stack. The building has two storeys and a tall chamfered plinth. The ground floor on the east and north sides is made with massive blocks of gritstone, while the rest of the structure is red brick.
On the east elevation, there is one 20th-century casement window on the ground floor, with a blocked window to the left and two blocked windows above. The north elevation features a recessed and chamfered single light window on the ground floor and two 19th-century casements above. The south elevation has a three-light segment headed casement window on the ground floor and a similar two-light window above. The west return wall shows the remains of a large gritstone external stack.
Inside, there are two main rooms on either side of the central stack, with exposed beams in the north room, the main beam being chamfered. A winder staircase is located behind the stack. The building is listed for its group value.
