Description
The village lock-up and pound, built in 1660 and rebuilt in the late 18th century, is located on Church Street in Sandiacre. It is constructed from sandstone ashlar with sandstone dressings and features a pyramidal plain tile roof along with an eaves band. The lock-up building is small and square, standing about 12 feet high, with a plank door on the west face and two small windows on the south face, arranged one above the other. Attached to the south side is a tall ashlar wall with rounded copings that curves around to the east, forming the pound. Above the door, there is a plaque that reads, "Erected as a village lock-up and pound for the imprisonment of stray animals about the year '1660 AD." This structure is also recognized as an Ancient Monument.
