Description

This canal bridge, located on the Erewash Canal, was constructed in 1779 by engineer John Varley and has undergone some later alterations. It is made of coursed squared stone, with sections rebuilt in red brick. The bridge features a single segmental arch, primarily made of brick but incorporating some stone voussoirs. The spandrels and parapets are plain stone, topped with chamfered stone copings. The walls of the bridge splay outwards and end in square piers, all of which have been partially rebuilt in brick. This structure was built as part of the Erewash Canal.
