St John's Primary School

St John's Primary School is a National school, later becoming a Church of England Primary School, built in 1836. It is constructed in the Tudor Revival style, using brick with slate roofs. The building features an ashlar plinth, quoins, dressings, and hood moulds, with rainwater heads inscribed "W". It has two ridge stacks and three gable stacks. The school is two storeys high, with nine bays in total. Most windows are mullioned casements with glazing bars and hood moulds. The front elevation has a central two-storey gabled wing with a parapeted canted bay window and lower gabled wings at each end. The canted bay window contains three casements, while the left wing has four, and the right wing features a studded Tudor arched door and four casements. A return angle to the right side also has a similar door. Flanking gables are each decorated with a shield panel, and the central gable bears a damaged panel inscribed "National School" above a casement. An addition from the late 19th century is visible on the east gable, featuring a large casement and, above it, a niche containing a double lancet. Further details on the east gable include a four-centred arched recess containing a stepped head casement. The west gable has a Tudor arched door, an arched recess with two casements, and a further single casement. The rear elevation has an off-centre gable and a gabled wing, with a late 19th-century gabled addition to the right. The rear features irregular fenestration, mostly 19th-century casements with segmental heads. The stop-chamfered spine beams have run-out stops.
