Description
Stapleford House Education Centre, originally a Wesleyan Chapel, was built in 1782 and has undergone additions and alterations in 1848, 1883, and the late 20th century. The building is constructed of brick, which is rendered and colourwashed, and features a slate roof in a Classical revival style. It has an ashlar plinth, sill and lintel bands, a pedimented coped gable, and corner pilasters. The structure is two storeys high and consists of three bays across and three bays deep. The windows are glazing bar sashes, with keystoned round heads on the front ground floor and sides of the first floor. The front has a central pair of doors with a fanlight, flanked by single sashes, and above this are three sashes. Each side of the building has three sashes on each floor. Inside, there is a matchboarded dado and a moulded cornice, along with five foliate ceiling bosses. A winder stair leads to a fretted, dentillated gallery supported by turned wooden posts. The rear additions from 1848, 1883, and the late 20th century are not considered to be of special interest.
