Description
No. 8 The Settlement is a house, now part of a school, built around 1820 as part of the Moravian Settlement. It is constructed of red brick with painted stone dressings and features a slate roof with brick ridge stacks and a plain eaves band. The building has three storeys and three bays.
The south front displays two glazing bar sash windows beneath slightly arched, rusticated wedge lintels with double keystones on the west side, and a similar blocked window on the east side, which is now partly filled by a 20th-century casement. Above these, there are three more glazing bar sash windows beneath similar lintels, and above again, three smaller, similar sashes.
The entrance is located on the narrow east elevation, where the building adjoins the Old Manse. It features a flight of stone steps with iron railings and a wreathed handrail leading to the front. A lattice work porch covers the pilastered doorcase, which includes a glazed panelled door. This building is included for its group value only.
