Description

Ockbrook School is a building constructed in 1821, with a significant addition made in 1908 and further additions in the 20th century. It was built as part of the Moravian Settlement. The school is made of red brick with stone dressings, which have been painted on the 19th-century portion. It features a slate roof with pointed, circular ridge vents and brick stacks located midway down the roof's pitch, along with a dentilled eaves band.

The building has three storeys and consists of eight bays, with five bays dedicated to the early 19th-century section and three bays to the 1908 addition. The early 19th-century part includes a flight of steps leading up to a moulded doorcase that holds a panelled door beneath a traceried semi-circular fanlight with its original lantern. To the south of the doorcase is a single glazing bar sash window beneath a rusticated wedge lintel with a double keystone. To the north, there is a pair of similar sashes closely positioned, with another sash beyond them. Above this, there are four similar sashes arranged in the same manner, and further up, five similar openings with sashes, one of which is positioned high above the doorcase. Four of these sashes are glazing bar sashes, while the northernmost is a horizontal sliding sash.

Attached to the north is the 1908 addition, which features a two-storey canted bay window on the north side, a central panelled door with stained glass, and 3-light casements on either side, all beneath chamfered stone lintels. Above this, there are similar windows on either side of a 2-light central window, and further up, there is a 2-light window in a half dormer on the south side, a small central window, and a 2-light window set in the gable to the north. The rear additions are noted as being of no interest.

Inside the 19th-century part of the building, there is a stick baluster staircase and panelled doors, while the 1908 addition features a well-crafted 18th-century style open well staircase.
