Description
Nos 5 and 7, The Settlement, is a house that has been converted into two houses. It dates from the late 18th century and was converted and extended in 1810, with some minor alterations made in the 20th century. This building was originally part of the Moravian Settlement. It is constructed of red brick with gauged brick dressings and features a slate roof with two large brick ridge stacks and a dentilled eaves band.
The main elevation has three storeys and three bays, while the side elevation has two bays. The front features a central moulded doorcase with a panelled door and a divided overlight, topped by a lattice work wooden porch with an ogival leaded roof. On either side of the door, there are early 20th-century casement windows set in original 18th-century openings under flat arches. Above these, there are three similar windows, and on the third storey, which was added in 1810, there are three smaller windows. The side elevation has similar casements below segment heads and a segment-headed doorcase with a panelled door and a large bracketed hood on the west side. Inside No 5, there is an original late 18th-century stick baluster staircase.
