Description
The Gables is a house built in the early 18th century and the 19th century. It is constructed of red brick and features a plain tile roof. The building has brick coped gables with plain kneelers and includes brick ridge, gable, and lateral stacks. It stands three storeys high and has decorative dentil bands at the first and second floors as well as at the eaves.
The west elevation consists of two gabled bays. On the ground floor, there is a 20th-century cross window on the left with leaded lights, accompanied by two small square windows on the right. The first floor features a similar cross window on the left, with another similar window on the third floor. The right-hand bay is blind above the ground floor. There is a single-storey lean-to bay on the right side.
The north elevation has a dentil eaves cornice and a 20th-century single-storey lean-to. The east elevation includes a lower 19th-century twin-gabled projection with irregular window placements. The south elevation has three bays, with a full-height gabled porch on the left. This porch has a segment-headed doorway on the ground floor with a 20th-century door and a 20th-century window above it. There is a single-storey lean-to to the left, and to the right, a tripartite segment-headed window with 19th-century sashes. Above this, there is a similar window, and again above that, a three-light casement window under a flat arch. The lower two-storey bay on the right has a similar 19th-century tripartite window on each floor.
