Description
Church Gate Cottage is a cottage that was originally two single bay cottages, dating from the 18th century, possibly with a 17th century core. It is constructed from coursed limestone rubble with flush dressings and quoins, topped by a steeply pitched plain tile roof. The gables are stone coped with moulded kneelers. The building features one brick gable end stack and one central stack made of stone and brick.
The cottage is two storeys high, with attics on the west side. A former doorway on the west has been filled with a later casement window. On the east side, there are two 2-light mullioned windows flanking another original chamfered doorcase. Above this, there are two windows that were originally mullioned but now have modern casements. On the west side, there is a single light attic window, and there is also a single storey wing with gritstone dressings.
