Description

This is a milestone located 100 metres south of Sycamore Farm, dated 1705. It is made of gritstone and stands approximately 3 feet high, with slight damage at the top. The milestone is inscribed on all sides: "WIRKSWORTH 1705" on the east, "ASHBOURNE 1705" on the west, "BAKEWELL 1705" on the north, and "DARBY 1705" on the south. There is an Ordnance Survey bench mark at the base on the north side. This structure is also recognized as a Scheduled Ancient Monument.
