Description

This is a milestone dating from the late 18th century or early 19th century. It is made from a single gritstone slab, approximately 1 metre tall, and is set into the northern verge of the lane that runs east-west between Wirksworth and Belper. The convex south face of the milestone is inscribed with the distances to London (1 mile and 38 chains) and Wirksworth (2 miles).
