Description

Banktop Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the 17th century, which was refronted in the 18th century and has undergone minor later alterations. The building features timber framing that is partly encased and partly rebuilt in red brick, with brick dressings. It has a steeply pitched red plain tile roof with brick gable and ridge stacks. The farmhouse is two storeys plus garrets and consists of four bays, including a two-storey porch.

On the south elevation, there are two segment-headed windows to the west, with the eastern window being a three-light glazing bar casement and the western window an uneven two-light glazing bar casement. The porch to the east has a four-centred arched doorcase with a 20th-century glazed door, and beyond it is a 20th-century window under a segment head. Above the porch, there are three flat-headed shallow glazing bar casement windows, with the western window being an uneven two-light window and the others being three-light. The porch itself features a smaller three-light casement window.

Just below the eaves, there is a large timber wall plate that shows evidence of the front wall originally being a close-studded timber frame. In other parts of the house, the timber frame has been encased rather than rebuilt. The double purlin roof structure is still intact.
