Description

Mill Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the 17th century, with later alterations and additions mainly from the early 19th century. The building features a timber frame that is rough cast rendered above a tarred brick plinth, topped with a black glazed pantiled roof. It is two storeys high with an attic and has an off-centre ridge stack, which has been rebuilt above the ridge on the right side, and a 19th-century external gable end brick stack on the left.

The farmhouse is laid out in an L shape, consisting of a three-bay range with an added rear wing dated 1803. A two-storey entrance porch, made of early 19th-century brick, has been added in front of the original lobby entry. This porch features a Greek revival doorcase with fluted Doric half-columns and decorative paterae. Above the porch, there is a sash window, and the gable is adorned with scalloped barge boards. On either side of the added porch, there are three-light casements on both floors, with two horizontal glazing bars on the ground floor casements and one bar on the first floor casements. The right-hand bay has only one ground floor window, which follows a similar design.

The 17th-century roof framing includes windbraces, and the rear wing has a coped gable with original six-pane casements. There is also an applestore on the first floor and a single-storey brick and pantile lean-to at the rear.
