21, Market Place

No 21 Market Place is a late 18th century to early 19th century building that was formerly two separate structures but now serves as a single shop at the corner of Market Place and High Street. The facade is made of painted brick and features a moulded eaves cornice and a hipped slate roof. The building has three storeys, with three sash windows facing High Street and four sash windows on the Market Place side, all adorned with engraved stuccoed lintels. The second floor on the High Street facade has modern casements in the spaces that were once occupied by sashes, while the first floor retains unbarred sashes. On the Market Place facade, the second floor's northern window has a sash with a boxed frame and late 19th century glazing, and there is a three-light sash window below it. The remaining windows are all sashes with glazing bars, and the centre window on the first floor features a keystone. At the rear, there is a Victorian section along High Street with Irongate facades and a corner turret, constructed of red brick with stone dressings.
