Description
This building consists of a cottage and an adjoining barn located east of Church Farmhouse. The cottage dates from the 17th century, with later remodeling in the 18th and 19th centuries. It is a single bay structure with two storeys, while the barn to the west has three bays and no overlofts. The materials used include rubble gritstone with quoins, a tiled roof for the cottage, and corrugated sheeting for the barn roof.
The cottage features a three-light flush mullioned window on the first floor, which has glazing bar casements and fixed lights. On the ground floor, there was originally a three-light recessed chamfered mullioned window, but it has been altered to include 20th-century casements. Additionally, there is a single light casement window to the east.
The barn retains parts of two cruck trusses, one of which is a reused timber that has mortice and seating for a massive arched brace, indicating a considerable span. An earlier investigator suggested that this building might be a derivative of a long house, as the doorway to the cottage is positioned in a cross passage.
