Description
26 and 28 Bullbridge Hill are a pair of cottages built in the early to mid 19th century. They are constructed from coursed squared sandstone with stone dressings and have slate roofs featuring a central brick ridge stack. Each cottage has two storeys above a basement and consists of a single bay.
No 26, located on the right, has a board door with a two-light casement window to the right, both situated beneath large tooled stone lintels. Above this, there is a similar casement window. No 28 has a board door to the right and a two-light small pane casement window to the right, both also below similar lintels as those on No 26. Above, there is a similar small pane casement window.
The rear elevation features a central board door in a plain stone surround leading to the basement stables, with 16-pane sash windows on each floor. These cottages were likely built for canal workers, as they are located immediately adjacent to the Cromford Canal, which was constructed in 1792.
