Description

The gatepiers and wall at Nottingham Lodge, built around 1910, are likely the work of architect Walter Tapper and were constructed for the Miller-Mundys of Shipley Hall. The structure features ashlar and rubble sandstone. At the center, there are two tall square gatepiers with moulded bases and cornices, each topped with large ball finials. The sides of the gatepiers have broad pilasters with scrolled tops. Between the gatepiers, there is a pair of wooden gates that curve downward towards the center. On either side of the piers, the random rubble walls curve in a semi-circular shape and have flat copings, with smaller square piers at each end; the southern pier still retains its ball finial. To the south, there is an additional section of wall that dips in a semi-circular manner. Attached to the northern pier is a lower random rubble wall that extends westwards and features chamfered copings.
