Description

Derby Lodge is a lodge house built around 1910, likely designed by Walter Tapper for the Miller-Mundys of Shipley Hall. The building is constructed from randomly coursed sandstone with sandstone dressings and features a steeply pitched stone slate roof. It has a cruciform plan with a large central stone stack and chamfered stone copings on plain kneelers at the gables. The lodge is square in plan and has single wide gabled bays on each side, consisting of one storey plus attics.

The south elevation showcases a central six-light recessed and ovolo moulded mullion window with leaded lights and a returned hoodmould. Each corner of the building features a semi-circular arch with a moulded edge, which is repeated on all facades, creating small covered areas with arches on two sides. Within the eastern arch, there is a moulded doorcase with a studded wooden door facing south, while the western arch contains a two-light recessed and ovolo moulded mullion window. Above the gable, there is a five-light mullion window similar to the one below, and a central plaque in a rusticated surround, adorned with the crest of the Mundys. The east and west elevations have similarly styled two-light mullion windows both above and below, along with ventilation slits at the top of the gables.
