Description

The former water tower to Shipley Hall, located south of Home Farm, is a building that dates back to 1892 and was extended and converted around 1920. Originally built for the Miller-Mundys of Shipley Hall, it now serves as a cafe and display area. The structure is made of rock-faced stone with ashlar quoins, dressings, and copings at the plinth and a moulded band near the eaves level, as well as a moulded cornice. An addition in red brick features brown brick sawtooth bands between storeys and is topped with a conical wooden roof.

The water tower is octagonal and has four storeys, while a five-storey brick tower is located on the south-west side, connected by glazed timber screens. The east facade of the water tower showcases a stepped 3-light mullion window with semi-circular headed lights on the first floor, along with a 2-light mullion window above it, also featuring semi-circular headed lights. Above these windows, there is a stone plaque displaying the crest of the Miller-Mundys and the inscription 'EMM 1892', carved in relief. The north elevation includes a raised doorcase, while the other elevations are mostly blank, except for the south-west elevation, which has new openings leading into the brick tower that contains a concrete spiral staircase and narrow windows on the north side.
