Description
The Meadows is a house believed to have been built in 1798. It is constructed of red brick with sandstone dressings and features a Welsh slate roof that is hipped to the west and gabled to the east, complete with stone copings and plain kneelers. The building has three brick stacks and stands three storeys high, showcasing plain stone bands on the first and second floors, a dentil eaves cornice, and a blocking course.
The west elevation is broad and symmetrical with three bays. The windows are set in strips of projecting brickwork, linked at the top by semi-circular arches with moulded stone dressings. The central doorway features a painted doorcase with pilasters and a pediment, a raised and fielded panelled door, and a traceried fanlight. This is flanked by glazing bar sashes under channelled stone lintels with stepped keyblocks. Above, there are three similar windows and three smaller ones on the top floor.
On the south elevation, sash windows are also set in vertical strips of projecting brickwork, linked at the top by a broad semi-circular arch. The left-hand bay on the ground floor has a 19th-century canted bay window. The rear elevation is irregular and incorporates an earlier cottage made of coursed squared sandstone, along with 19th-century iron framed windows.
Inside, the entrance hall features a segmental arch and a dentil cornice. The staircase has carved tread ends, stick balusters, and a wreathed and ramped handrail.
