Description
Gervase House is a house, now divided into four flats, built around 1775. It is constructed of red brick with sandstone dressings and features a Welsh slate roof with external gable stacks. The building has a stone plinth, quoins, painted ground, first and second floor bands, and a dentil eaves cornice with a blocking course above.
The east elevation is symmetrical with three bays, where the central bay is advanced and adorned with quoins and a pediment. The entrance has a stone doorcase with pilasters and a pediment, leading to a raised and fielded panelled door topped with a traceried fanlight. On either side of the door are tripartite glazing bar sashes, separated by Doric pilasters and featuring Adamesque friezes and dentil cornices. Above, there are two similar windows flanking a glazing bar sash with a matching frieze and moulded surround. The top floor includes a plain sash with a moulded surround, flanked by tripartite plain sashes in moulded surrounds.
Inside, the entrance hall features a plaster frieze with urns and a segmental arch that separates it from the staircase, which has a curved projection to the rear around an open well. The staircase is detailed with carved tread ends, stick balusters, and a ramped and wreathed handrail. There is a rear wing added around 1900, which is not of special interest.
