Description
The gatehouse at Duffield Hall, now used as offices, dates from the early 19th century. It is constructed of red brick, coursed squared sandstone, and sandstone ashlar, topped with a plain tile roof featuring stone coped gables and plain kneelers. A stone gable stack is present, and there is a moulded eaves cornice on the west side. The building is two storeys high and has an L-plan layout.
The west elevation consists of three bays with a gable on the right side, faced with ashlar. It features a central elliptical carriage arch with alternately raised voussoirs and modern glazed doors. On either side of the arch are three-light square section flush mullion windows, with two similar windows above them, alongside a single light round-arched window that has a projecting impost and keyblocks. The south elevation is made of brick with stone quoins, and the centre bay is advanced and gabled. It has four glazing bar sashes on the ground floor and one above. The east elevation includes iron framed casement windows. The gable end facing the road is flush with stone walls that extend about 20 feet to the north and south.
