Description

This is a cruck barn dating from the 17th century or earlier, located to the west of Lindway Lane Farmhouse. It is constructed from coursed rubble gritstone and features a plain tiled roof. The barn has four bays with low sidewalls and brick buttresses on the south gable end. There are two doorways, each fitted with planked stable doors. Inside, three cruck trusses support a single purlin roof, featuring splayed scarfs with square abutments. The trusses include collars and yokes, and they support a ridge purlin. Two of the trusses have spur ties into the sidewalls, while one contains an in-situ tie beam. The barn also has cross lapped longitudinal braces, some of which are curved, with only one brace missing. The rafters were replaced in the 20th century.
