Description

Mather's Grave, Guidepost and Wall is a Grade II listed structure located in the parish of Brackenfield. This retaining wall incorporates a gravestone and a guidepost and dates back to 1643 and 1730. It is constructed from sandstone and features a rubble retaining wall that includes a square stone block inscribed with 'SM 1643'. At the center of the wall stands a tall square stone post inscribed with '1730' and 'Ashover Road' on the east side. The west side is inscribed with 'Matlock Road', and the north side bears the inscription 'Bakewell Road'.
