Description

Lindway Lane Farmhouse is a farmhouse that underwent late 18th century modifications from an earlier structure. It is built from regularly coursed rubble gritstone, featuring quoins, plain gables, and end brick stacks, topped with a Welsh slated roof. The building consists of two linked ranges, each with two bays, stepping from west to east.

The west range is two storeys high and has three- and two-light flush mullioned windows, with the two-light windows located on the first floor and featuring 20th-century casements. There is a central doorway with a quoined surround and a massive lintel, leading to a four-panelled door with the upper two panels glazed.

The east range is slightly advanced and has two doorways. One doorway at the west end is part of the farmhouse and features a planked stable door with the upper half glazed. The doorway at the east end serves an outhouse. There is a former overloft opening that has been converted into a window with a 20th-century casement, and below it is an inserted 20th-century opening with a casement frame.

The earlier house on this site may have been a long house, with the lower range possibly serving as the byre end, indicated by the west doorway's position in the cross passage. Inside the lower range, there is a stump of a cruck blade incorporated into the masonry.
