Description

Ashwell Cottage is a cottage dating from around 1700 with 19th-century alterations. It is constructed of coursed rubble stone and painted brick, featuring a thatch and slate roof with brick stacks at the center and ends. The building has 1½ and 2 storeys, with casement windows that have wooden lintels. The earlier section on the left includes three 2-light dormers above a combination of 2-light and 3-light windows, as well as a low wide door and a 2-light sliding sash. To the right, there is a range with a stone ground floor and a brick upper, featuring a 3-light casement window on both floors and a stone gable end. At the rear of this range, there is an additional 1½ storey wing with renewed 2-light casements, dormers, and a 20th-century stack. On the left end of the cottage, there is a first-floor 2-light casement. Inside, the cottage features chamfered beams, an inglenook, and a hood.
