Description
The stable block at Ashwell Lodge, which was formerly used as barns, dates from the late 18th century to the 19th century. It is constructed from coursed rubble ironstone with brick dressings and features a thatched roof. The building consists of two sections, both two storeys high. The left section has three bays and includes chamfered tie beams, although it otherwise contains 19th-century timbers. It features three 8/8 sash windows with cambered lintels and a stable door on the right, with a loft door above. The right section is slightly lower and likely has mostly 19th-century timbers. It includes a stable door with an 8/8 sash window on either side and a loft door above. The rear of the stable block faces the garden of Ashwell Lodge, with the lower section having a blocked opening and the other section featuring five small windows. The stable block is included for its group value, as it forms an attractive ensemble with Ashwell Lodge, representing a former farmhouse and its associated barns.
