Description

Ashwell House is a house built in 1812. It is constructed of red brick and features a stone sill band and a parapet at the front, topped with a hipped slate roof that has four symmetrical ridges and rear stacks. The building has three storeys with a total of three sash windows: 4/4 and 3/3 in the centre on the second floor, and 8/8 and 6/6 on the other floors. The windows are adorned with gauged brick lintels and stone sills.

At the front, there is a central flat-topped porch accessed by two stone steps, supported by a column with a fluted capital at the front corners. The porch has glazed sides and features two part-glazed doors. On the left side of the house, there are additional sash windows, including a round-arched sash window leading to the staircase. The right side has a front with four sash windows, and the ground floor has a bowed extension on the left. This extension has a lead roof and a tripartite sash window.

At the rear, there are two two-storey extensions; one has a 20th-century tile roof, while the other includes a rear stack. Inside, there is a contemporary staircase with a mahogany rail and six-panelled doors. Ashwell House was formerly the Rectory.
