Description

No. 17, Main Street is a cottage dating back to 1775. It is constructed from coursed rubble stone with a Collyweston slate roof, stone-coped gables, and red brick end stacks. The main entrance is at the rear of the property. The front elevation has 1½ storeys, featuring two 2-light dormers over an outshut, a 2-light casement window, two doors, and one blocked 1-light window. A stone tablet carved with "John Abby, 1775" marks the front. The rear of the cottage, facing the road, has three 2-light windows, with a 2-light dormer above. To the left, as viewed from the road, is an extension that incorporates garage doors, a 2-light dormer, and a 2-light window on the first floor. The interior includes an inglenook fireplace and a chamfered stopped ceiling beam with run-out stops.
