Description
The retaining walls, railings, and gates for numbers 1 and 2 were built in 1856 by TC Hine of Nottingham and were restored in the late 20th century. They are constructed from ashlar, featuring cast-iron stanchions and wrought-iron railings and gates. The wall, which is topped with a railing, extends approximately 40 meters along the east side of Castle Grove, starting from the junction with Lenton Road. At the Lenton Road end, there are steps leading to a renewed gate and lamp for No. 1. At the opposite end, there is a concave recess with the original gate and railing for No. 2. This structure is part of TC Hine's earliest phase of the Castle Park development for the Duke of Newcastle and is included for its group value.
