Description

This is a late 1856 house, originally designed by TC Hine of Nottingham as part of the early development of Castle Park for the Duke of Newcastle. It has since been divided into two separate houses, numbered 4 and 4A. The building is constructed of white brick, partly painted, with stucco dressings and hipped slate roofs, topped by two coped brick stacks. A first-floor sill band, moulded cornice, and coped brick parapet with ball finials at the corners are notable features. Most of the windows are original margin light sashes. The building is three storeys high, with an attic, and has a double-window front.

The south-western front, facing the garden, features two projecting bays, each with a sash window on every floor. A ground-floor window on the right-hand side has been replaced with a French window. Each bay is topped with a coped, shaped gable and a round-arched window. The right return has a three-storey, three-window canted bay window, surmounted by a turret with three round-arched windows and a spire roof incorporating three small, wooden gabled dormers. A single sash window is located to the right on the second floor. The rear elevation has pairs of round-arched windows, with the lower right-hand pair altered to form a doorway. To the right of this, a round-arched doorway is situated under a moulded, round gable, topped with a ball finial.
